Sun Safety

The Partnership has been involved in multiple programs promoting sun safety and the importance of sun protection measures. These programs seek to reduce the occurance of melanoma and other skin cancers in our community.

Safer in the Shade Tree Planting uses a multi-pronged approach to raising skin cancer awareness including planting trees in high-sun areas where youth play or engage in sports. In addition these events reinforce the ways to avoid excessive sun using brimmed hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Fun in the Sun is an outreach program held at local community pools and lakes. A Sun Safety display is set up with information such as how to identify skin cancer and sun protection options.
